If you are planning to purchase, or if you have already purchased, an imported car, getting the vehicle insured so you can get it on the road is a top priority. However, finding coverage for your import can be time-consuming, frustrating, and expensive. But it’s not impossible. Just be ready to ask questions and possibly contact several insurance agents to get the coverage you need.
While you can get a great deal on the purchase of an import by buying it abroad, you can lose those savings when you pay higher insurance premiums. That is why it is helpful to research insurance before you even buy your import, and to get several quotes to be sure you get the most competitive rate. That’s especially true if you are importing a sports car. The rates for sports cars are always higher because of the higher frequency of sports car crashes.
Most insurers will cover an imported car as long as they locate the VIN numbers. If they cannot locate this registration number, then it is up to you to see if they can find the exact model your car in their look-up table. If that doesn’t work, you will have to see an agent for another company.
Some insurance companies will only insure popular import models and will only insure the vehicles for the market value. Other insurance companies will insure modified imported vehicles as long as the modifications aren?t substantial. If they are substantial, then you will need to find an insurance provider that specializes in substantially modified import cars. Substantial means different things to different people, so this is yet another reason to obtain several quotes from different insurance providers. One provider may rate the modifications substantial, while another provider may not. It is important to ask questions when obtaining an insurance quote.
Some companies will not insure European versions of a UK car, but with left-hand drive. This is also something to keep in mind when importing your car and obtaining your insurance.
It is also very important to check your security fittings. These could have a great impact on your vehicle’s eligibility for coverage, not to mention the cost of the policy. Not having the right security fittings will either raise your premiums dramatically, or cause the company to reject your car for coverage altogether. Make sure you get detailed information on security fittings before you import your car.
While insuring your import may be time-consuming and expensive, it’s not impossible. Do your research. Ask Questions. Call your importer and ask for their advice for obtaining insurance. And if you are importing a sports car, you can often get insurance at a discounted rate simply by joining a car club. Clubs often make deals with insurance companies for their members?ask about the benefits available to you. Finally, make sure you get comprehensive coverage for your imported vehicle. You imported car is an expensive investment, and it needs thorough insurance protection.

In all, an automobile insurance policy will have the names drivers as those that are going to be authorized to drive the car. Many policies only contain one named driver, however, if you have a household with other adults that can drive, you might want to consider placing them on as well.
Just as anything, named drivers on the policy have their good points and they have the bad points. Having named drivers ensures that your car will only be driven by the listed individuals; if not, they do not have your consent to drive. Having multiple drivers on a policy also allows for a flexible situation. It works very well for families.
The major downside of named drivers on an insurance policy is the extra cost that is brought about when placing them on. The insurance company sees them as a greater liability for a few reasons. The main reason is that you have just increased your chances of an accident with multiple drivers. Also, they are not as experienced or familiar with your car usually. Other factors that might raise this amount are the age of the driver and the experience of the driver. New drivers have very high rates.
If there is a point in time where someone will be driving your car for a lengthened period of time, you may want to consider adding them on as a temporary named driver. It is known that some insurance policies do not have this feature, so make sure yours does before you decide to sign on the line. This usually comes in great handy for family trips, someone?s car breaking down and seasonal visitors.
Always remember you are responsible for your own vehicle. This means, if you allow someone one drive you car while not on the policy as a named driver, you are putting yourself at great risk. If an accident came about, you would ultimately be responsible and have to pay damages, get sued and more.
There are other ways to save on car insurance cost in a legal way. You can do one of two things when you have a young driver on a policy. First, instead of the new, young driver getting their own policy, they can go on their parent?s policy. Now, although this has worked well in the past, many insurance companies are very aware of this practice and are trying to head it off. Some insurance companies will actually void your insurance; be sure to check with your local agent.
Another option is just the opposite. The parents can be on the new driver?s policy. Any way you have it, it still saves money because there are responsible and proven good drivers on the record. This, in turn, eliminates some risk for the insurance company from their perspective.
The last piece of advice is to shop around. Do not settle for an insurance policy that does not deliver what you want. Instead, look around for one that fits your needs; there are many to choose from.

Money is on the minds of many Americans these days, and with that comes concerns about how and where to cut back expenses and live a more frugal lifestyle. Doing this, for some means giving up those extras like big vacations, meals at fancy restaurants, and extravagant shopping sprees, while for others it means cutting back on the groceries that they are buying or perhaps cutting back the amount of their insurance premiums each month.
There is a different mentality between wealthier people and those with less money. Wealthier people believe in insurance as a key to their financial security even in times of financial crisis, however the more impoverished see insurance as a luxury; a monthly expense that when compared to food, clothing and shelter, is just flat out unnecessary. This misconception can be very costly.
Insurance is not something extra. It is a part of a financial plan, a stability factor that is intended to secure your family and keep them safe. It is therefore important to realize that without insurance you could be leaving a large hole in your family’s security for the future.
Many times, the individuals who believe that there is no need for health insurance, have little to nothing. Realistically these are the individuals who need the insurance the most. Insurance coverage, like health insurance, can cover many unforeseen circumstances. If you become ill and pass away your insurance plan pays all your medical bills leaving your family free of the responsibility. Also, what if your home burns down, will you be able to afford to go and buy a new one right away, could you replace every item in your home? Most likely the answer is no, this is where insurance plays a crucial role in everyone’s life.
To close, it is extremely important to secure your life through insurance. Whether it be life, health, homeowners or car insurance policies, the monthly fees are a needed expense. It is better to eat bread and butter each night then to live with insurance….TRUELY!

We would be in a huge amount of financial worries if insurance was not on our side. If you think about it; if you get in an accident, what happens? The first things people do that have insurance is call their insurance company; those who do not have a hard time coming to them. Face it; having insurance is an everyday occurrence. Car insurance keeps us level headed when we are in the car.
You do not fully appreciate what vehicle insurance offers you until it is too late and you are in a vehicular accident. In our lives, we will at least use insurance once. Many of us will use our car insurance for claims many times in our lives. It really is the luck of the draw; what are your odds? Even the smallest fender bender can leave you wondering how you will pay for the damage if not covered.
The most basic coverage you will find with car insurance is called liability insurance. It prevents from large sums of money coming out of your pocket in the event of an accident. When you have a car accident, one person will come away from that accident liable for the damages. There is more to a car than structural damage when you get into an accident. Accidents also include physical and emotional damage. This can pose a horrible and debilitating financial outcome.
Liability Insurance is also called Third Party Cover. If you are deemed at fault for the accident, you will be able to avoid bankruptcy with liability insurance. You do not want to be stuck in court because you did not have insurance coverage. This would usually involve the person who was not at fault trying to get all the money they can out of you and then some more in court costs. This is their legal right. This process is long and drawn out often times taking years to come to a resolution. The resolution is usually you being wiped out of everything.
You should take out Third Party cover on all motor vehicles in your possession; including items like motor scooters. When you have cover, you will not be responsible to go to court and fight or negotiate terms and the like. This is what you pay the insurance company a premium for. Most of the time you will not use it; however, you will eventually and it will pay for itself. In the event of an accident, you will only be responsible for the excess. This is basically the amount that was predetermined during the signing of your policy. It is the money that you have to pay out of pocket before the insurance actually kicks in.
You might want to talk to your insurance agent to check for the best vehicle insurance available so you can be fully covered and secured. There are many aspects of an accident and liability insurance is the first step. Explore your options so you do not get caught off guard.

One good way to get discounts from your car insurance premiums is by outfitting your car with the appropriate anti-theft device. Car insurance companies allow discounts to policies offered to car owners who have anti-theft devices installed in their vehicles. When you are shopping for a car insurance policy, it is important that you ask your insurer of the applicable discounts that they offer for specific anti-theft devices that are installed on the insured vehicles.
The anti-theft devices are classified under three main categories. It is important that you have the basic understanding of these types of devices when you are searching for the best car insurance quotes.
The mechanical anti-theft devices are used to control the movement of the steering wheel. This will prevent your car being driven once this mechanical device is installed. These mechanical immobilizers are a good alternative to high tech electronic gadgetries that are very common in the market today. It relies on its ability to restrict access and control the movement of the vehicle and the most common device under this category of anti-theft device is the steering wheel lock bar. While this latch bar is the most common, there are also other protective devices which are equally reliable and these include the lock bars for the gear shifts, tires and the brake pedals. The upside of this type of anti-theft device is that it is conspicuous making it an effective deterrent to car thieves. Nonetheless, police officials recommend that these devices be used in conjunction with the other types of anti-theft or security alarm systems.
If you prefer the modern gadgetry for the security system for your car, then you have to make your choice from the devices that fall under the major category of security alarm systems. These electronic gadgets are generally motion-activated alarm systems. The system produces a deafening alarm in case of forcible entry, sudden movements and nudges and perimeter breaks. The alarm serves as a deterrent for potential theft as it is easily activated under the previously listed threat scenarios.
The third category of anti-theft systems includes electronic devices that provide vehicle tracking capability. In instances where thieves successfully drive off with your car, this third category of car theft security system will monitor and report the exact movement and location of the stolen vehicle. An added feature of vehicles with vehicle tracking security system is the VIN etching which functions as the identification code of the vehicle and as the tracking device. Another major feature of this type of security system is its capability to immobilize the car by cutting off power once there is an unauthorized attempt to drive the car.
The last thing that you must do when you are considering the appropriate car insurance is to ask and confirm the discounts being offered by the car insurance companies for vehicles outfitted with security systems and anti-theft devices. You have to confirm with your insurance agent or the insurance companies which anti-theft devices qualify for a discount on premiums. If you are making online searches, make sure that you provide a complete description of the anti-theft device that is installed in the car being insured.

Finding discounts on your auto insurance premium can lower your bills as much as 30% or more if you qualify for the majority of the discounts and already have moderately priced coverage. The trick comes to be applying for and obtaining the discounts so that you will be paying less in premiums each month.
What makes the life of an auto insurance company easier will often result in a discount for you. One such method is the act of paying your premiums with an EFT, or what is known as an electronic fund transfer. Doing so will cut down on paperwork associated with payment, be more reliable, and result in less costs to the auto insurance agency. With the right insurer, a discount will result.
Being well educated can earn you a lot of money- and not just in the future as you get an outstanding career. You can start having it pay off now as auto insurance companies offer student discounts for auto insurance policies. So long as you can maintain a good GPA during each semester of your school, you can apply for the discount and save a small percentage of money.
If you know that you are a good driver, and that you deserve extra reward for being so, you can opt for a program such as that Progressive agencies offer. Progressive has a MyRate plan that allows a device to be installed that monitors your speeds and driving times. Those who drive less and drive well can get a high discount on their premiums- sometimes as much as a third. Otherwise, it could result in being more costly to drivers.
Installing a security system for your vehicle is a marvelous idea. First, you won’t have to pay a deductible on a theft if it never happens. Second, auto insurance agencies will sometimes reward you for doing so since they exhibit less risk if you have such devices. The deduction in premiums will pay for itself in as little as a year, so you can think of it as a free upgrade. Check with your insurer to be positive they allow for such discounts.
The best thing you can do at this point to avoid a rise in premiums is to stay out of trouble. When you break the law, you are doing more than endangering the lives of others- you are also making your own finances suffer. Auto insurance companies will keep up to date on your driving record, and will penalize you or drop you altogether if you show too much risk as a driver.
Final Thoughts
Be smart about driving, and you won’t have to worry about auto insurance companies giving you a hard time about your coverage. Obey the laws at all times, be responsible in school, and try to secure your vehicle against common threats.

After you have already purchased the new car you always wished to have, you may just come to know that you will now also have to get car insurance besides your monthly car payments. For many states, it is compulsory to have car insurance, and most finance providers require you to get a minimum coverage for your new car.
If you wish to lower your premiums on your new car then the best way out would be to buy a ?safe car?. These cars are called so because they include extra features like air bags and anti-lock brakes, which protect the cars from heavy damages during an accident. Even though the car your buy is not particularly a “safe car”, you may still avail the discount rates by adding some features that the insurance companies look for, in your car.
When thinking about car insurance with a new car you will want to think about what type of model you purchase. All insurance companies use some sort of rating, usually an ISO symbol, which tells the insurer about how much it would cost to fix the vehicle in a crash. Although it is not a set number, it helps the insurer get a general idea while they set your premiums. Sports cars have a much higher rating than your average family vehicle, so be sure to take that into consideration while buying. Even the color of your car plays a small factor towards your premium.
You should never use a new car without insurance. Just imagine how bad it would be if the new car gets involved in an accident within few days of buying it, and you don?t even have an insurance to fix the damages. Apart from this, some of the finance providers insist on your getting insurance for your new car. If you don?t get this done, then they may get the insurance for you on three times more the original cost.
You must be careful about the kind of coverage your insurance plan provides you. Many people think that liability insurance is the best choice, but maybe you?d want to get some extra coverage for your new car. In circumstances when a car driver wrecks you and doesn?t have any insurance, collision insurance can help you get coverage for the expenses.
You must also consider the fact that a brand new car is more vulnerable to vandalism and theft. A sports car is more open to this threat. To safeguard your car from such happenings, you may need a comprehensive insurance, which covers your car for any kind of disaster except car accidents.
Getting a new car insured can be a costly affair, so it is essential to considering this while planning your payments. You must know that every aspect like your driving history, credit record, and type of car is taken into account by the insurer to determine how risky a driver you are. However, there are numerous ways by which drivers can strive to reduce their insurance rate from the start, but this may require you to search for the different deals by companies and look for the discounts offered.

One of the cheap insurance to opt for is the Pay as you drive plan, particularly if you don?t drive that much. Some people just cannot live without a car, but there are others who use it rarely, only when they go for a long trip outside town. If you are more into traveling by bus then you will realize the significance of the pay as you drive insurance, as paying premiums for a car that you scarcely use can be painful.
This type of insurance is really more of a deduction. It is an option given to motorists, but it is only available in some states. Because your final price is only received after you relate your hours or miles driven, the actual price cannot be stated in the agreement, which makes it illegal in some areas. This complication is trying to be sorted out so everyone can have the benefits of pay as you drive insurance.
This insurance is calculated in diverse methods. You can get an examiner come and inspect the mileage of you car and decide your charges accordingly. You can also send your mileage to your insurance company through your GPS system. You can also have your GPS relate the style of driving and model if you feel that it will facilitate in further lowering your premiums. You can also record your mileage by a method of ?pay-at-pump technologies?.
Pay as you drive insurance can really be cheaper, for drivers who do not hit the road too often. Almost two of every three people can use this insurance plan and save money. Another advantage of the plan is that you can opt to have a short period of coverage. This can be ideal for the college student who come home and drive only during summer vacation. Instead of paying insurance all the year around, they can get covered by the pay as you drive plan. A lot of people find their cut by nearly 50%, which matters greatly for many drivers.
Drivers of rural area don?t trust pay as you drive plan because they feel that if they drive more then they will be asked for more money. Relax, because keeping in mind that accidents generally occur in cities, the insurance companies make adjustments for the rural drivers. Your insurance premiums will be decided depending on your average area information, and you will be offered discounts depending on your mileage.
Pay as you drive insurance is not only cheaper, but it helps out the environment as well. Since less people drive their cars, there would be fewer accidents and less carbon dioxide emissions. It?s a great way to start helping out the environment, and you don?t even have to change much of your lifestyle.
In case you are doubtful of the pay as you drive plan, attempt tracking your mileage for one month and then look around for quotes. You will have to contact an insurance agent for the quotes, but it is expected that you?ll be highly surprised by seeing your savings. In case you feel that your monthly mileage is too much for this insurance plan to be advantageous, then you can carry on with your old insurance plan.

Filing a car accident insurance claim is a very easy affair, but processing it correctly becomes difficult because of the thrill caused due to the accident. If all information is furnished in the right manner then the claim shouldn?t take more than a week to get processed, even if getting the check for the damage and expenses may take almost a month to reach by mail.
After an accident, the first thing you must do is ensure that everyone is safe. In case of a grave accident, you must immediately ask someone to cal at 911 for assistance. You must also remember to not rush into admitting your fault. If it gets proved that the accident was not caused due to your mistake, you may still have to have the compensations. Try to get control over the situations, calm people around you and then approach the other driver or drivers
You must approach the other party only to exchange contact details and information. You must get details like their names, address, and phone number. If you find that the other driver is upset then let the police officer arrive and take this information on your behalf. The police officer will draft a report with whatever information he can gather by talking to both parties and inspecting the accident area.
Before anything else is done you should take a few quick pictures. Of course, if you are in a busy area they will want to get the cars out of the way as soon as possible, but you need to get pictures before anything is moved. Get pictures of the damage to both cars and the surrounding area.
This is also the time to call your claims agent. If everyone has a little time to wait the agent can come out immediately. They help take pictures, question witnesses, and get the story straight. They will also help you fill out the claim form, whether it is over the phone or in person. They need to know the exact time of the accident and where it was. Try to get a copy of the police report and send it in if possible.
After you call your claims agent, take pictures, and get the other driver’s information you will be able to leave the scene. If you hit someone’s car and leave without leaving any information it is known as a hit and run. A check should come to you through the mail for the damages, but this can take a long time. You will probably have to pay for repairs out of your pocket before you are reimbursed for them.
There are many other things you can ask your agent that may help you understand the claims process better. You may want to ask them about your coverage, since different plans cover different kinds of accidents. You may also want to know when the rest of your paperwork is due by, although it is usually required within a week. For larger accidents and more complicated cases you may want to consider getting an attorney to cover your case.
