Picture the scene: the sun is shining, the temperatures are sky high and you are out cruising in your car. The radio is pumping, the window is down and your eyes are hidden behind your sun glasses. You can see her in the distance and you can’t keep your eyes off her. You then start singing ‘Pretty woman walking down the street, pretty woman the kind I’d……..then BANG. You have just crashed your car.
It won’t be the first and it certainly won’t be the last car accident caused by a man’s inbuilt hottie-spotting ability! It’s hard to imagine a more embarrassing phone call to your car insurance company when claiming.
Jeremy Clarkson from Top Gear can be a little bit outspoken, OK, he can be very outspoken. Last month he made a comment concerning this very issue. It goes a little something like this ‘People imagine the most dangerous time of the year to drive is November or perhaps February - dark nights, fog, ice’ He continues to say that ‘Sunny skies, light breezes, girls wearing short skirts, because the thing is, you can’t not look. You can’t physically not look.’
In a recent survey into the summertime crash phenomenon, a UK surveying team found that 29% of male drivers admitted to being distracted by the female of the species during summer. Contrast this with a low, low figure of just 3% of women being distracted by men during the summer. If you also take into account that men are 16% more likely to make a car insurance claim during the summer months than their female counterparts, then you can see a distinctive trend starting to emerge. One last statistic to fill you in on is that during the last 5 years, 25% of men have admitted to having a summertime crash or a very close call.
What has your experience been of the same situation? Has this ever happened to you and would you admit it to your insurance company or worse your girlfriend? The only words of advice I can think of to make sure you drive safely this summer is to keep your eyes on the road and not on the ladies. Take yourself out to the beach and get your eyeful there but while on the road stay focused and try not to make a fool of yourself by crashing. That is not going to impress the ladies now is it?
